As with all websites offering a profile matching service, (such as web dating, roommates, social networking for example) the main security risk is the financial scam.  Everything else you can figure out when you meet them.  The website has limited control to prevent financial scams or other abuse because they do not vet the candidates personally.  Financial scams usually occur before meeting because money is asked for in advance over the internet, providing a quick and easy way to commit this type of crime.  Always take great care to check the candidate's identity and read the advice on security before you contact anyone.  FindAupair.com advises to write to them at [email protected] if you come across anything suspicious and think a nanny or au pair might not be genuine.  FindAupair.com encourages diligence and suggests the following ways to detect a scam:

• The candidate asks for money for flights, documents, visas or other reasons
• Inconsistencies in their registration information, particularly with regards to nationality and country of residence
• Check the IP address matches their country of residence and does not hide it e.g. "satellite provider"
• Do they ask you for strange information about yourself?  For example personal details other than your name and address?
• Do they fail to ask questions about you that you would expect?
• Do they ask a lot of questions about money?
• Do they accept a job before knowing much about you?
• Do they fail to send many photographs of themselves?
• Special warning on the Cameroon and other African countries - these are where most scams originate.

When searching there are a useful number of search criteria to use.  This should enable a reasonable match for what you are looking for.  The profiles are well completed and there are some nice introductions to read from the au pairs.  Most come with pictures, although they are of varying quality.  Being an international site there are au pairs from all around the world, some looking to work in specific countries, and others looking to travel around.  Au pairs require no qualifications, and, because of the young age of most of them, they will be looking to gain experience.  Compared to the other au pair websites in this category there is a wide range of candidates to choose from.  There are no extra services offered with this site compared to the agencies and more generalized childcare websites.  It is quite a basic site that offers two levels of use - free registration and paid membership.  Being so popular, you should be able to line up a good shortlist within three months membership.
